Time period of 30 days has been given to the US secretary of the interior to formalise the change. Trump said that this change recognises the gulf’s historical and economic importance to the US nation and past disputes with Mexico over tariffs and Border negotiation.
For some people the news isn’t shocking because this is not the first time Trump tried to change the name of any place; previously he sought to rename Mount Denali North America’s highest peak mountain to Mount Mckinley. Trump also said that the U.S does the most work on the Gulf so he insisted that this region should have America’s name.
But can he or any President of any country actually bring this big change like renaming the whole water body. So its answer is YES but with limits because the Gulf is an International water body shared by three regions the US , Mexico , Cuba that means the change only applies to America.
