On March 1, 2025 Angie Stone’s life was terribly ended in a shocking van crash on Alabama Highway. According to the reports from the Alabama Highway Patrol, this terrible accident happened on I-85 in Montgomery, Alabama at around 10:45p.m.

Angie Stone was travelling in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, which crashed into an 18 wheeler truck and the impact of the crash damaged both vehicles. Stone was severely injured because of the crash and declared dead at the crash scene. However No injuries were found on the driver of that 18 wheeler truck.

Angie Stone was an amazing singer, songwriter, and also a good actress. She was born on December 18,1961 in Columbia, South Carlina.her full name is Angela Laverne Brown. She started singing gospel music at a very young age.In her family almost everyone loved music which may have inspired and nurtured Stone. Stone’s father, who was also a member of the local gospel group, The Singing Stones, played an important role in influencing Angie’s early life and music career.
Stone’s music covers a long four decade, in her music career she has released many albums, collaborated with renowned artists, and won many awards. She is mostly known for her soulful voice and her ability to blend in different music genres, for example R and B , Soul, Hip-Hop and Rock.

Stone’s journey in music began at the first Nazareth Baptist Church under the guidance of Reverend Blakely N. Scott. She was raised in a type of household where gospel has a constant thing. Her father would often take her with him to see the performances by gospel legends like singing angels and the gospel keynotes.
1979-1985: The sequence and hip hop beginnings:
In the late 1970s, Angie became part of the pioneering female hip hop trio the sequence at the age of just 16 years , alongside Cherlyn”Pearl” Cook and Gwendolyn Blondie Chisolm. This group’s second rap act made a history in the music industry which was signed to the iconic Sugar Hills Records. They released a song called Funk you up this song reached number 15 on the US top Black singles chart in the Late 1980s, The sequence a trailblazer the hip hop scene achieved little success before disbanding in 1985 as this genre evolved to a genre conscious art form from a fun party origin.
1986-2005: From Vertical Hold to Black Diamond amd a solo career
After The Sequence dissolved, Angie also worked with the electro-funk group Mantronix and she later became the lead vocalist for the R&B trio Vertical Hold. Their popular single “Seems You’re Much Too Busy” and albums “A Matter of Time in (1993) and Head First in (1995) garnered some success, but it was not it what changed Stone’s career, her next move that would change her career forever.
In the late 1990s, Stone’s was signed by Arista Records, where she released her debut solo album Black Diamond in 1999. Named after her daughter Diamond Tiara. It achieved a gold certification from the RIAA and produced the hit “No More Rain (In This Cloud)”, a song that would definitely define Angie’s soulful style. This made her future as a Solo artist.
Her second album was Mahogany Soul in 2001 which was released under J Records.This album featured collaborations with industry legends like Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, and Raphael Saadiq.The song from the album “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” became her most significant international hit,which reached the top of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and even cracked the top 10 in countries like Belgium and Australia.
2002–2005: Acting and Broader Recognition
Angie’s career expanded far from music into acting, where she first made her film debut in The Hot Chick in (2002) and played a role in the popular The Fighting Temptations in (2003). She also starred as Big Mama Morton in the Broadway musical Chicago in 2003, which showed her talent as an entertainer.
Her third album, Stone Love which came in (2004), was another hit, featuring the successful single “I Wanna Thank Ya” with the legendary Snoop Dogg. It was a shifting music landscape but still the legendary Stone remained a respected figure in the R&B world. In 2005, she also released Stone Hits: The Very Best of Angie Stone, which was her hit from her first three albums.
2006–2014: The art of love & war and unexpected
In 2006, Stone appeared on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, where she lost 18 pounds and it sparked a conversation about health and wellness among fans and artists. The same year, she also signed to Stax Records, where she released her fourth album, The Art of Love & War in (2007). Stone put her many efforts into this album, which topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. And the lead single “Baby” became her second number one hit on the US Adult R&B Songs chart.
Her song “I Ain’t Hearin’ U”, ranked14 on the Adult R&B Songs chart.
2015–2025: Dream, Full Circle, and Final Years
Stone made her music till 2010s making albums like Dream in 2015 and Full Circle in 2019 which came in top 3 on the Hip Hop / R&B Albums chart then in 2017 she released an album named Covered in Soul which was a tribute to some artists like Phil Collins and Neil Diamond.
After this in 2024, She received a deserving honor when she was introduced into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Personal life and legacy:
Angie Stone was a very good mother to Diamond, her daughter who was born in 1984, and Michael D’Angelo Archer II, her son, whom she had with D’Angelo in the late 1990s.She made sure her family wellness while working as professional singer which proves that she excelled in both her personal life and professional life.
Angie was also an honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority, a recognition she received in 2024.
