According to the US Geological survey, An earthquake with a high 7.6 magnitude struck the Caribbean Sea on Saturday 9th Feb.

This Geographical shock hit 209 km (130 miles) South Southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands.

A Tsunami can be possible today, said The US National Tsunami Warning Center (NWTC). This Tsunami threat is for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. People who are currently living in those areas are advised to evacuate of the water, of the beaches and away from marinas, harbors , bays and inlets and not go near shores to observe the Tsunami.  

 

But this threat notification was cancelled about 50 minutes after it was issued by NTWC.

Tsunamis can be very dangerous and can cause serious damage to the land. That is why the Cayman Islands government advises its residents to remain under tsunami threat.

 

“The alerts are over, but the water can still have strong and unusual currents. Stay careful near the water and be cautious” said National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC)

 

The timing of waves are expected between 8 p.m ET and 10 p.m. ET.
